<\/p>\nIf you use a non-PPO facility for services that are available at a PPO facility, you will pay more. Here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n
\u25a0 The amount the Plan pays a facility (for example, a hospital or surgery center) for covered services (the \u201callowed amount\u201d) is the PPO rate or 50% of the charges.
\n\u25a0 The Plan\u2019s PPOs facilities limit their charges for covered services to the PPO rate.
\n\u25a0 Non-PPO facilities may charge what they\u2019d like, but the Plan will only allow up to 50% of their charges. Plus, Plan payment on the allowed amount is reduced by 20% for the first $50,000 in covered facility charges for non-PPO facilities. You are responsible for paying any facility charges not paid by the Plan.
\n\u25a0 For covered hospital stays at a non-PPO facility, you will also pay a $1,000 penalty (per admission).<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s an example of what you might pay (assuming you have paid the deductible) for a hospital stay with charges totaling $50,000:<\/p>\n
