Diabetes is a serious disease that can lead to heart disease, stroke, eye damage or kidney problems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">If you have prediabetes, two simple changes can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><b>Lose 5\u20137% of your body weight. <\/b><\/span>For a person weighing 180 pounds, this means losing 9 to 13 pounds.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\"><b>Engage in at least 150 minutes of physical activity each week, <\/b><span class=\"s3\">which is about 20 minutes per day.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\">It is important to find out if you have prediabetes, because early treatment can prevent serious complications. Since prediabetes often has no symptoms, ask your doctor to test your blood sugar level if you are over 45 years old, are overweight, or if you have a family history of diabetes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em>You can cut your risk for type 2 diabetes by 50%\u2014 and lower your risk for a heart attack or stroke and improve your overall health\u2014with just a few lifestyle changes.
